Ideal for Wireless Access Points and POE installations

We recently reviewed a one of a kind unique unpowered 2-pair Ethernet extender named the Enable-IT 820 LRE.

The unit is capable of driving Ethernet and dual voice lines over plain old telephone copper (POTS) up to 600ft or 800ft on CAT5 or better.

For those installations that require POE to also be combined you would have to use a Catagory 5 or better (4-pair twisted) for the backbone run in between 820 units. POE requires it’s own 2-pair for voltage so they can co-exist.

More info can be seen at http://www.enableit.com/820.html

Good comment and question. The Enable-IT 820 LRE unit is a single point to point solution for driving Ethernet and voice together over the same 2-pair of wire. This wire can be standard POTS telephone wiring or any Category rated wiring like CAT5e.

The Enable-IT 8850 concentrator and 8802 wallplates are a multi-point Ethernet and voice solution that is best suited for Multi-Dwelling Units (MDU) like apartments, dorms, office builtings and hotels. The 8850 is a dense 12 port 110 Telco punchdown that allows for rapid and centralized DSLAM service.

There is also other companies doing similar products, that you might want to review. One is Riggs Technology, a USA manufacturer of high performance network extension products. The core product is the NetExtender. It’s an Industrial Strength Ethernet Extender, proving data and power to remote devices. Using Harsh Environment Ethernet RJ45 panel connectors and a IP67 enclosure, the units are able to be placed in extreme outdoor conditions.
Using a non-IEEE.802af POE they are able to remotely power multiple NetExtenders configured in a linear design, extending Ethernet data for up to 3900 feet with 100 Mbs full duplex of bandwidth, while providing power to other end devices, such as IP cameras.
